House Kitchen & Bar
555 Capitol Mall Suite 155 Sacramento, CA 95814 - In the Capitol Mall
American Restaurant in Sacramento
FROM THE RESTAURANT:
House Kitchen & Bar was created by chef/owner Chris Nestor, after having a vision and seeing it come to fruition with his [+]other Sacramento restaurant, Ink Eats & Drinks. This time around, he was driven to create an entirely different atmosphere and concept: classic comfort food in an upscale, yet casual, environment.
His passion for great food and impeccable service is evident. The staff at House Kitchen & Bar have been working diligently since January 2010 to please all of their guests, and to ensure that every taste bud and expectation is satiated and exceeded.
Our goal is to create classic comfort food with a contemporary twist, while exceeding the service expectations of all of our guests. We truly want everyone to feel as if they are a guest in our "house". If crunchy double-dipped fried chicken or creamy 5 cheese mac n' cheese doesn't appeal to you, our chefs are more than happy to create something special just for you!

How it all began....
Morton's actually exists today because of...hamburgers! Years ago, before co-founders Arnie Morton and Klaus Fritsch really knew one another, they both worked at the Playboy Club in Montreal. The club was changing the menu, and Klaus cooked a hamburger that was sent out for Arnie to try. Arnie burst into the kitchen, demanding to know "Who cooked that hamburger?"
When Klaus stepped forward, he wasn't sure if Arnie was going to be pleased or not but was relieved to hear him say that it was the best he'd ever tasted. From that day forward, they called it the "Million-Dollar Hamburger"!
More than 3 decades later....
Morton's has grown to over 74 restaurants, but the vision is the same today as it was when we opened our first restaurant in Chicago in 1978. Quality. Consistency. Genuine Hospitality.
Driven by the desire to provide genuine hospitality–for our guests and our employees–we offer a setting where people truly care about one another, and show it in everything they do. The high level of respect and enthusiasm that runs through our entire organization is evident in many ways, including the longevity of our staff and managers, some of whom have been with us for decades.
Represents the bountiful harvest California has to offer and the proud Sacramento history we continue to shape today. We [+]love our city, and we love our state.
While looking into Sacramento’s past, we found that the Industrial Revolution was a fundamental time of change in the region. Steam boats pumped up and down the Sacramento River, and the Nation’s first Transcontinental Railroad was nearing completion. This period of bustling commerce and innovation helped lay the foundation of our city. During the year of 1850, a series of fires destroyed much of the city of Sacramento.

Espanol

- Sacramento CA -
Espanol an Italian Restaurant in Sacramento - East Sacramento
Over Nine Decades of Excellence
The tradition and eating excellence at “The Espanol†began at 114 Jay Street in 1923. For several years “The Espanol†was a Basque boarding house owned by Castro Arrate and Victoriano Urratia. During those [+]first years, most of the tenants were sheephearders who hired out to local ranchers. It was during these years that Mamerto Fernandez became partner by buying out Mr. Urratia.
In the early 1930’s, Ancil Hoffman (the legendary Sacrament-an and manager of the late Max Baer) took over ownership of the building. Little by little outsiders were introduced to the boarders’ food and “The Espanol†became a favorite restaurant of many “Old Time†Sacrament-ans. [-] Categories:

Located along a well-loved strip of J Street between 36th and 37th streets, Juno's is a tiny but popular local go-to for delicious sandwiches, salads, and entrees served in a welcoming and down-to-earth neighborhood setting. Soak in a beautiful East [+]Sac afternoon at one of our sidewalk tables, grab an indoor table, or take it to go. We hope you'll visit us soon!
About Our Sourdough
Juno's bread is made from a wild starter, using an ancient practice of naturally leavening locally milled flour, water and salt through a long process of fermentation. Every morning I inspect the leaven and mix a highly hydrated dough. Weather and intuition dictate the length of the bulk fermentation and bench rise through a series of turns. The final shaping and a long cool overnight proof result in a rustic loaf speckled with wheat and complex flavors from three simple ingredients.
Kasbah Lounge

- Sacramento CA -
Kasbah Lounge a Middle Eastern Restaurant In Sacramento - Midtown
This Restaurant Is Currently CLOSED
FROM THE RESTAURANT:
We believe food, drink and community go hand in hand.
Classic Middle Eastern and Mediterranean flavors & outdoor seating draw a unique mix of people, local [+]and international alike, to this neighborhood standby.
History
Kasbah has been an important source of late night entertainment since 2004. When Debbie Chang and Tanya Azar purchased the restaurant in 2016 (as employees of 14 and 13 years respectively), they made a concerted effort to turn this once a lounge into a full-scale restaurant with an exceptional food and drink menu.
Kasbah is incredibly culturally diverse. On any given night, one can walk through the restaurant, and hear five or six different languages being spoken. Kasbah values its unique mix of old world and new world, hosting a meeting of cultures.
Nopalitos
- (East Sacramento)
- Sacramento CA -
Nopalitos a Southwest and Tex-Mex Style Restaurant In Sacramento - East Sacramento Restaurant
At Nopalitos Southwestern Cafe, every menu item is the product of creativity and culinary craftsmanship. And, some items have become legendary. Dave's muffins are outstanding, the pancakes are amazing (they were featured on the cover of [+]the February 2009 Sactown Magazine), and every other item on the menu is equally excellent in its own way. The cafe has become a landmark in the East Sacramento area and continues to grow in popularity.
The nopal cactus, often called the prickly pear, produces two important food crops. One is the "nopalitos," the elongated pad, and the other is the prickly "pear" fruit of the cactus. So central was nopal to the indigenous culture of Mexico that its name forms the root of Mexico City 's Aztec name, Tenochtitlan, meaning "place of the cactus. The nopal cactus is also the basis for the name of the Nopalitos Southwestern Cafe a popular, cozy neighborhood cafe located on the corner of 56th and H Street in "East Sacramento," California.
Dave and Rose Hanke, both trained chefs, opened Nopalitos in April of 1992. Dave, viewed by his fans as an outstanding chef, developed his own recipes. Rose focused on managing the counter and keeping all those important records. Between the two of them, and helped by two assistants, Nopalitos soon became one of the most popular cafe in Sacramento. When the couple opened Nopalitos in 1992, they decided to close on the weekends because Dave wanted to coach his son, Aaron, then 7, in baseball. Aaron grew up and eventually played a couple of years in the big leagues with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Dave and Rose decided they actually enjoyed having a life beyond the cafe, so they never opened on the weekends or evenings. [-] Categories:

A charming Ethiopian restaurant in Sacramento on Broadway @17th.
FROM THE RESTAURANT:
ALL YOU CAN EAT LUNCH BUFFET
VEGETARIAN & VEGAN
Queen Sheba, a charming Ethiopian restaurant on Broadway @17th. Ethiopian food is [+]more communal than almost any other type of ethnic food. The hallmark of Ethiopian cuisine consists of sharing food on one giant plate and using enjera a spongy, sour, pliable flat bread to scoop up the various shared dishes. enjera is the common thread of almost every meal for Ethiopias middle and upper classes. Prepared much as it was 1,000 years ago, enjera is both an eating utensil and a palette for other foods to lie on. It lines the giant plate, soaking up the sauces and spices of the various dishes piled on top. The eating of this lining or table clothâ signifies that the meal is officially over, completing the communal Ethiopian dining experience. "Subscribers Choice Awards" Zion Taddese and her brother Eskinder opened Queen Sheba Restaurant on Howe Avenue in August of 2003 and have recently move their location to 1704 Broadway downtown Sacramento which is a larger restaurant that allows them to serve more customers. Together, the siblings offer friendly and attentive service along with spicy, flavorful dishes that follow the traditions of Ethiopian dining. You can enjoy, the famed honey wine, tej, which Ethiopians often make themselves, with a unique taste that complements the spices in the food. Combination plates on the menu, allow you to sample different dishes arranged symmetrically on a giant plate. Dishes such as Gomen, a dish of cooked spinach, collard greens, onions and garlic. Gomen may remind you of collards in soul-food cooking. Then experience, miser kik wot (wot meaning stew), a satisfying, mild-flavored dish made with lentils and spices. In the combination you will find two similar-tasting dishes, doro wot and gored gored. Doro wot is a popular dish with chicken leg and hard-boiled egg, served on a dark bed of simmered vegetables and spices. It has the color, consistency and heat of a fiery chili. Doro wot is of the chicken family, the gored gored has cubes of beef in a similar mixture, spiced in Ethiopian fashion, with berbere. Berbere, a mix of at least a dozen spices, including paprika, ginger, cardamom, hot chilies and turmeric, giving Ethiopian foods their distinct flavors.
In addition to these we have many Vegetarian and Vegan dishes for you to enjoy. You'll end your dining experience eating the large table cloth Enjera, which is soaked with the sauces and spices of the various dishes. Finish with coffee, coffee drinking has a great significance in Ethiopia. Ceremonial in nature, beans are freshly roasted, ground and brewed and then served in tiny cups with sugar but no milk. Drink three cupful's for a blessing. The flavors and customs of Ethiopian dining will provide you with the experience of food from the "cradle of civilization".

Mezcal Taqueria a Mexican Restaurant in Sacramento - Natomas
Our family gatherings and special moments have been always accompanied with amazing food. Our carne asadas (what we called having a BBQ) brings family and friends together and I wanted to create an environment where I could share moments like [+]this with others.
Fast forward to 2008; I was blessed with an opportunity to purchase a restaurant in South Natomas. My family and friends, business partners, and our cooks, we worked day and night getting Mezcal ready and creating recipes for our new menu. We were all exhausted, but excited to share our family and new recipes with everyone. I wanted to create a space where everyone can feel like a guest in my home.
We opened our doors on March 9th in 2009 and we have been blessed by all of the community support and patronage.
Mireya V.
Our Food
Mexican food and its techniques are rich in history with influences from the Mayans, the Aztecs, and other Pre-Hispanic cultures. Later on the Spanish and other Europeans brought new crops, stock, and influences. Nowadays Mexican food is diverse and ever evolving. Each state and region have their own techniques and flavors. Here at Mezcal Grill we offer dishes that offer a little bit of everything from all 32 states. For example we bring you carnitas just like our family has been doing them in the state of Michoacan; techniques from the states of Jalisco and Guanajuato, and flavors from the states of Veracruz and Sinaloa. And of course let's not forget about our Tex-Mex and Californian influences.
